About Us
Huddersfield Art Society is a vibrant, welcoming meeting of like minds that is constantly changing and improving, providing interest and stimulation to the membership..
Anyone in the locality with an interest in art can join and take advantage of the many exciting and inspiring activities on offer. These range from demonstrations, workshops, specialist art groups and social activities often with an art focus.
The society is run by an elected Management Team who are dedicated in representing the membership in decision making, managing the society's finances and membership administration, and organising groups and activities throughout the year. This includes workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions, various special focus groups such as Portrait, Life Drawing, Abstract and En Plein Air Painting, and social events. The Management Team includes the 'Board', which consists of a minimum of three elected members of the society who ensure that the co-operative rules are adhered to and who take responsibility to ensure that the society is well run in a co-ordinated and equitable manner. The Board includes the Membership Officer and the Financial Officer / Treasurer, plus at least one other member of the Society. Any member of the society can put themselves forward to be a member of the Board or the Management Committee. The rest of the Management Team is made up of the Group Leaders and elected members who hold other delegated roles such as the Technical Officer who oversees and advises on the use of the technology available to us.
The Management Team meets approximately four times a year in order to keep everything running smoothly, and the team are constantly looking at new ideas for the society, particularly in relation to the use of technology and new opportunities to develop our art groups to support members' interests. The Management Team will regularly seek the opinions of the wider membership on various issues and welcome any suggestions made by members in developing the society and providing activities of interest to the membership. There is an Annual General Meeting (AGM ) every year to present various reports to the members, and to discuss the developments and direction of the society for the year ahead.
